Flush by Carl Hiaasen, Book Review by Mary Kate

In this book, I liked how everybody worked together.  Nothing in this book probably could really happen because the kids were climbing out of windows at 1:00 in the morning without permission on a school night.  I chose this book because a friend had told me to read it and someone in my book club suggested it. It is about a boy and his sister whose dad went to jail because he sunk somebody's ship.  The person was dumping the bathroom waste from the ship into the ocean.  The boy and girl try to get him out of jail.  The dad finds evidence to keep himself out of jail until the truth comes out.

I gave this book four stars. ****

The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan, Book Review by Zachary

I likes this book because of all the battles and challenges.  They are dangerous.  I read this book because it is part of a series and it sounded good.  The other books in the series had been good.  This book begins when they are at school and they battle to get people lost.  The people go back to camp and get permission to look for the people.  They encounter lots of battles and problems.

I gave this book 4 stars. ****

Trial by Fire by Greg Farshtey, Book Review by Zachary

I liked this story because it has action and suspense.  I like action because it is fun and intense.  I chose this book because it is easy to read and I do not really like reading.  I also chose it because it is based on a toy theme, which I like.  Six Toa are trying to save a city from an evil plant root.  In order to do this task, the Toa must find these special disks and only six villagers of their own city know where the disks can be found.

I gave this book four stars. ****

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds by Joan Palmer, Book Review by Baylor

The thing I liked most about this book was the fact that it has my favorite dog, the miniature schnauzer!  I also like that it shows how to take care of the dog and what you need to do it.  I chose this book because I could learn more about dog breeds and what the dogs like to do very quickly.  This book has a lot of information on animals and what they need to survive such as what they eat, how much grooming they need, if they are good show dogs or just normal pets, and especially how much love they need.  It makes you not consider getting a dog unless you can take care of it.

I gave this book five stars.*****

Life as We Knew It by Susan Pfeffer, Book Review by Georgia

This book was full of suspense.  i could not put it down when I had to.  Another thing I liked about it was the pictures.  I read this book because other people on the blog had said it was great.
In this book there is an astronaut that crashed into the moon which makes all the waves go crazy and a lot of people die and there is no power.  The gas prices have gone up to $7.00 a gallon and there is no food in the grocery stores.

I gave this book five stars. *****

Miles to Go by Miley Cyrus, Book Review by Grayson

Miley Cyrus was a normal girl with a rock star dad.  She was used to be in the spotlight with him and with her competitive cheerleading.  One day she auditioned for the new show her dad had heard about called Hannah Montana.  She was called back over, and over, and when she was about to give up was told she got the part.  Because of one simple “yes” her life had been changed forever.  She now has multiple albums out, has made many TV appearances, and has been in a few movies.

In this book, you will find the “ups and downs” of being famous.  You will learn how exhausting it is and how much commitment is involved.  Before reading this, I didn’t like Miley Cyrus much, but after this book I found I can relate to her in many ways.

This is a really good book, probably one of my favorites.  I suggest all girls should read this.  I am almost positive you will enjoy this book and find Miley to be "relatable".

Where is Waldo by Martin Handford, Book REview by Michael

The book was good because it was colorful. Some times it was hard to find Waldo but I ended up finding Waldo. I chose this book because its fun to look at. It is very fun to look att. As I said it is very colorful.

Waldo is going around the world and you have to find out were he is. And you have to find some other people that are with Waldo.

I would rate this book written and illustrated by Martin Handford a 5 star.

Sunrise Over Falluja by Walter Dean Myers, Book Review by Gabe

I loved this book because it has a lot of action, and was realistic, and just plain amazing. When I finished this book I was reluctant to give it back. This book was so good that I couldn’t put it down. It was also an easy read.

I chose this book because I needed something to read, and it’s a war story. I’m glad I chose this one. I’m a fan of war-stories, so this book appealed to me. Again, I’m really glad I chose this one.

In this book a group of Civil Affairs soldiers goes to Iraq. There they learn about the horrors of war, gift of life, and friendship. In this book I gave it five stars!!!

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, Book Review by Meaghan

This book was very good.  It showed tons of friendship between two boys who weren’t meant to be friends.  It also showed scenes from the holocaust and it was very interesting. It was an adventurous book. I liked the dialogue between the characters and the characters were people who you wish there were more of in this world.

I chose this book because we were studying about the holocaust and I thought it might be a good book to read to learn more. I also have heard really great stuff about the book (and that great stuff is true!) and so I thought I’d give it a try. The book was very emotional and I like books that make me feel things like compassion. I also like books that make you think. It looked altogether good, especially since the summary doesn’t really give a summary and makes you wonder what will happen.

Bruno, a nine year old boy, has to move to a house called out-with and is NOT happy about it.  But when he finds a concentration camp by exploring he finds a boy his age on the other side of the fence (or farm in Bruno’s eyes) in striped pajamas like everyone else on the “farm.”  He meets this boy whose name is Shmuel and ends up making a great friend who ends up replacing his 3 best friends for life. Though with the merciless compassion from heartless Lieutenant Kotler it’s hard to see each other. This book is a great book about friendship and compassion.

Canterwood Crest: Home Sweet Drama by Jessica Burkhart, Book Review by Alexandra

I read the book Canter wood Crest: Home Sweet Drama.  This book was a great book. The reason that I liked this book was because it had short chapters. I also liked this book because it had problems that happen everyday in it. This book made me want to continue reading the rest of the series.

I chose to read this book for many reasons.  The first reason I read this book was because I wanted to see what was going to happen next in the series.  I also wanted to read this book because of the great characters that are in this series. They sound like everyday people.

This book is about a girl named Sasha Silver.  She is going to a high ranked riding school in the south. She has trouble finding friends.  In this book she finds a friend named Callie Harper. They both try to keep their place on the YENT team and have their friendship survive.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, by J.K. Rowling, Book Review by Daniel

I chose this book because I read all the other books and they were great. Although I loved all the other books, I liked this one the best. It had everything I wanted and much more.

Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are searching for the key to destroy Lord Voldemort. This book has excitement and you won’t be able to put it down. It will drag you into a magical world of witchcraft and wizardry. Good will face evil, as both are in the eyes of death, who will survive? Harry Potter will duel the notorious Lord Voldemort in the battle of the century.

Read the book and find out what happens to Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they are on the run from evil. Help them find the keys to bring Lord Voldemort to his true death. This book will give you everything you need. You will feel excitement, sadness, and anger as Harry Potter attempts to defeat death.

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell by Carmen

I chose the book Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell. I liked this book because it was very good and very descriptive. The author wrote it so you could put a mental picture in your head while you were reading it. This book also had many real life situations in it and ways to fix them.
I chose this book because again, it was a great book and it was very descriptive. I also chose it because we just read it in language arts and I really enjoyed it. I wish there was a second book following this one. These are a few reasons why I chose to write a book review about Island of the Blue Dolphins. If I had to rate this book, I would give it four stars.

A girl who is only a teenager gets abandoned on an island with her brother after jumping off a ship to go back and save him. She has to deal with the loss of her brother and has to build a house and cook for herself. The girl, whos name is Karana, faces many obstacles and also gets hurt many times. After many years of waiting to be rescued, a ship finally comes to the island. But will this be the ship coming back to rescue her?

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling, Book Review by Morgan

This book had a very detailed, fast-paced plot that kept you hooked from the beginning.  I chose it because it is one of my favorites in its series.  It has very interesting characters that you can relate to.  It is action-packed.  It won many awards.

Harry is a cool main character.  His friends are Ron and Hermione.  They are also cool. It is about a bad wizard that gets really strong and kills a bunch of people.  The headmaster Dumbledore forms an order to stop him.  I rated it 4 stars.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, Book Review by Brenna

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas was about a boy named Bruno who is the son of a commandant in Germany in World War 2. Bruno has always been happy in his home in Berlin with his mother, father, and his sister Gretel, who was a hopeless case. When Bruno’s father gets a promotion from Adolf Hitler, Bruno and his family are moved away to a house out in the country known as “Out With.” Bruno is sad that he has to move away with his friends and most of his family to a house in the middle of no where.

When Bruno goes exploring one day, he finds a big fence, with many scary, dirty, and sad-looking people inside it. Bruno meets a little boy his age. Bruno and the little boy be-friend each other, but when something sudden will test their friendship, will Bruno do the right thing?

I liked this book because it showed that you can find friendship anywhere in a place where there is sadness. It also shows what people where like back then.

I chose this book because it was recommended to me many times. I thought that it was a great read!

Review: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas  *****Five Stars

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Book Review by Jack

I like this book very much. I like it because it is so exciting. It is a good book.

I choose this book for 2 reasons.1 reason is because my sister said it was good. The other reason is because she made me read it.

In this book Percy goes to a camp called camp-half blood. In this book he is accused of stealing Zeus’s lighting bolt. Will he get is back?

Paintball by Joanne Mattern, Book Review by Andrew

I loved the pictures and the way the author explained the game of paintball.

I chose this book because I love the game of paintball.  It’s a game of quickness and skill.

Paintball is telling people how to play paintball. It talks about the pros and the rules. It tells you how the sport got started and how to become good at it.

The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, Book Review by Brenna

The book I chose to write about was called “The City of Ember”.  It was a very interesting book.  The author, Jeanne DuPrau, went into a lot of detail in describing the characters.  She also told about the city very well.  She said it was underground, the lights flicker a lot and the food supplies are going down.  She wrote this book really well and I got the picture of the city and the people in my head.
I chose the book for a couple of reasons.  I chose this book because it sounded good and when I read the summary I got intrigued to read it.  My friend also read it and recommended it to me.  This book was a good read.  It caught my attention when I show it.  These are just some of the reasons I chose this book.
The book was very interesting.  Done and Lina live in the City of Ember.  The city’s lights always flicker and most people get scared.  The food supply is also going down.  So one day Done and Lina try to find a way out of Ember.  Meanwhile someone gets killed in the process.  This book gets four out of five stars.  I recommend this book to everyone who likes mysteries.

The Cupcake Queen by Heather Helper, Book Review by Michelle

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days by Jeff Kinney, Book Review by Christian

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a comic book that is really funny. It’s not funny at only one point but it’s funny throughout the whole book. It is the fourth one in the series so if you haven’t read this series at all you should.

This book is also really funny and entertaining. It is really short and you can finish it in like one day. It’s one of those books that you can’t just put down. All kids like this book.
It is one of New York Times bestsellers.

For a summary it starts out with Greg on summer vacation. He thinks he can sit back and do nothing until his mom ruins it. She makes Greg go play with his friend Rowley and makes the Reading is Fun! Club. Then summer is over and Greg had a horrible summer according to him.

The Cay by Theodore Taylor, Book Review by Katie

I liked how the author showed the way the main character, Phillip, used his senses and learned how to keep himself alive on the island. I also liked the way Phillip and Timothy, also a main character, got along.

I chose this book because it was my favorite book so far this year.

A boy named Phillip had to leave his home because the Germans were about to bomb the island he lived on. When he was on the ship with his mom, a German submarine exploded their ship. Phillip was separated from his mother and a man named Timothy was put on the same raft as him. Timothy had saved Phillip. On his way falling off the ship, he hit his head and it damaged a certain muscle in his eye. He became blind. Phillip and Timothy now had to find an island quickly. Once they found an island, many weeks later, they had to make themselves a hut and make a signal fire. Many times they heard and saw planes, but did they get ignored or was it a success?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows by J.K. Rowling, Book Review by Michael

Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavendera, Book Review by Thomas

I like this book because it includes a lot of the things I like, such as: action, adventure, drama, and comedy. The description was great and the newer version we read was a mix old and new.

I read this book because it was assigned in Spanish class.

A man named Don Quixote decides to become a knight because he has read a lot of books about knights and enjoyed them a lot. He then decides he needs a squire so he goes out and finds a dumb man named Sancho Panza to become his squire and they then set out in 1600’s Spain to go on very exciting adventures with many twists.

I'd Tell You I Love You But then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter, Book Review by Liesl

The book I chose was I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have To Kill You by Ally Carter. I loved everything about this book. I loved how it was a spy series but it wasn’t all confusing. The book involved problems that ordinary people have to deal with. It was a very exciting book, so you weren’t bored for a second!  I chose this book because it is one of my favorite books of all time. I was pulled in from the start because of the really long title. I read the summary of the book and it sounded good, so I checked it out at the library. Pretty soon I was reading it and I couldn’t put the book down. I hope you’ll get as intrigued as I was!

Cami is a student at a very high society school. But really, the school is a school for spies. Young girls are chosen for their skills and talents to become future spies. This book is about how Cami has to balance spy school and her friends with an ordinary guy she met at the fair who doesn’t know the real her.

Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen, Book Review by Kelley

The book I read was called Someone Like You. This book was written by Sarah Dessen. I liked a lot about this book. It was a book that I didn’t want to put down. I wanted to know what would happen next. I was excited to know what would happen at the end.

I chose this book for a couple of reasons. One reason is that when I read the summary on the back of the book it was so intriguing. It caught my attention like a cow riding in a car. I also chose this book because the cover of it looked very good.  Another reason I chose this book was I was very concerned about the character and I wanted to know what would happen to her.

A high school students boyfriend dies in a motorcycle accident. Soon after the death, she discovers she is carrying his baby. This book is about how her best friend helps her along the way and how they try and survive through their high school years.

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell, Book Review by Alexandra

I liked the Island of the Blue Dolphins book. It was very descriptive about the island and what was there and the author kept it in suspense. Also, the book told how a girl survived on an island by herself. This is why I liked this book.

The reason I chose this book is it was the latest book I have read. It was easy to remember all of the details of this book. It was also interesting how a girl our age survived on an island by herself and how she managed to get through it.

The summary of this book is a girl, her family, and the villagers live on an island shaped like a dolphin.  Soon, an Aleut ship came to their island to hunt otter. They get in a fight and the Aleuts end up killing the islander’s leader. A new leader is selected and he goes to find a new island for them. The ship comes back for them and accidentally leaves Karana’s brother behind on the island. What will Karana do?

****4 stars.

L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad, Book Review by Abrielle

I liked the book L.A. Candy for a few reasons. One reason is it’s always filled with drama and action, new things are always happening! Another reason I liked this book so much was because I liked the main Characters. One main character is Jane who is a small town girl and the second main character who is Scarlett is a girl who doesn’t let people get in her way and is headstrong. These main characters always keep things interesting. When I read this I could barley put the book down!

The main reason that I choose this book was because I saw one of my friends reading the book, so I read the summary on the back of the book and I instantly got interested. When I read the summary I saw that the book was filled with drama and excitement. So this is what got me to read the book.

The book L.A. Candy is a book about two girls, Jane and Scarlett. These girls move to L.A. Jane moves because of her new job, which isn’t going as great as she wants it go. Scarlett moves to L.A. to start college at University of Southern California, and she doesn’t exactly get off to a great start. The girls are doing fine though despite all the drama going on at school and work. Everything changes for them when their discovered by an agent. They are asked to star in a reality TV show called L.A. Candy. There’s no way Scarlett and Jane will say no to this! They’ll be getting paid to live their normal life and have fun while living it. New friends, new places, and new faces, could life get any better! Little did they know that their life would be turned upside-down. Their new friends don’t turn out to be as great as they thought. Will they survive or will the crash?

The 39 Clues: Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan, Review by Jacob

This book was a very cool idea, and it moves pretty fast. There was a lot of action, as well as some funny sentences. The book also has lots of different settings around the world. It is part of a large series, so there are lots of books after this one.

Many kids have read this book. My friends who have read it told me it was very good. The idea of this book is very cool, and this author writes many good books.

Amy and Dan Cahill are orphans living with their great aunt and their au pair, Nellie, in Boston. When their favorite grandma dies, they go to her funeral, where they find they have many more relatives than they realize. In their grandmother’s will, all of a group of relatives are given the choice to be put on a quest to have tons of power in the world. Amy and Dan accept the challenge, but so do some of their relatives, who are not the nicest aunts and uncles, and the quest turns out to be more than just a friendly scavenger hunt.

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Review by Grace

The thing I like most about The Outsiders was that it kept your attention. There was always something interesting going on. It kept you reading.

My class read this as an assignment. From looking at the cover, I probably wouldn’t have chosen it. After you read a few pages, you are attached to it and you don’t want to stop reading.

The Outsiders is about a young boy. His name was Ponyboy. He was in a gang with his brothers and their friends. Ponyboy’s parents died recently and it was dangerous for greasers like him. They got into lots of fights with the Socs. Ponyboy and Johnny, a friend from the gang got into a big fight and accidentally killed Bob, a Soc. Johnny and Ponyboy had to find a way to cover it up.

Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian By Rick Riordan, Review by Ian

I like this book a lot because it has a lot of action, comedy, and it is fast paced. It had a really good story line that comes out and grabs you. You always want to keep reading it no matter what you are doing. I really suggest this book to anyone who likes fiction books.

I chose Percy Jackson and the Olympians because I like Greek Mythology. It really interests me how they added a modern twist and an amazing storyline to such an old thing. It is an amazing book that adds a lot of comedy and action to and old time story.

This is a short summary to the book. A young boy named Percy Jackson is a perfectly normal boy. Until he finds out his father is a Greek god and his best friend is part goat. Once he finds this out, terrible things start to happen. Like, he is accused with a terrible crime that could set the entire world into chaos and war, but he has nothing to do with it. So to prove himself innocent and save the world, he has to go on a perilous journey that could kill him and his friends. He must face terrible beasts and impossible puzzles.

High Wizardry by Diane Duane, Book Review by Beth.

I like this book because it is exciting and an adventure, and at the same time touching and suspenseful. It combines all of these things to make it a book that is really good. It is a perfect book for any fiction reader.

I chose this book because it was the third book in a series I was reading. Each book is better than the last, until this one. I am on the ninth book but this book (High Wizardry) is the best in the series.

High Wizardry is about a family. The older daughter, Nita, is a wizard, but her sister, Dairine is jealous. The next day the family gets a new computer. While they are trying to set it up, Dairine messes with it and a copy of the computer appears with her version of the wizard's manual. The rest is an adventure of planet-hopping, creating life, a near death battle...a happy ending until the next book?

Holes by Louis Sachar, Review by Brady

This book builds suspense on every page. It was wonderful. I never wanted it to stop. It was awesome. Every chapter got better and better.

This book has a really cool cover. It is small and pretty short, so I could read it in the car.

Stanley has a history of bad luck and he is in the wrong place at the wrong time when he gets sent to juvenile detention. I could not imagine going to dig holes for as long as he did.

Terrible Times by Philip Ardagh, Book Review by Michael

I liked this book because it was hilarious and filled with comedy. It's funny because his family is messed up and his aunt keeps hurting his uncle. I also liked this book because it shows you how hard it was for people on ships back then.

I chose this book because it had to do a book report and a friend recommended it.

Young Eddie Dickenson is told he must go to America to see what happened to the Terrible Times, his family's newspaper. Along the way he is accompanied by his messed up family. While on a ship with criminals, he must keep the captain's diamond safe.
